My Observations Of What 6-Figure Earners Have In Common

I spend a lot of time thinking about money.

Ways to make it, ways to save it and invest it.

Not so much about what physical things I can buy with it, but the freedom and options that money provides.

Speaking with people on their journey to 6 figures, the deeper reason for wanting to achieve that number is the 'removal of money-related stress.

Speaking with mentors and others that have reached the pinnacle 6 fix figure salary, I've noticed they have several things in common.

They don't think 6 figures is enough

Most interestingly they don't believe that 6 figures is even a lot.

They've become accustomed to what 6 figures bring to the table.

They spend time with people bringing in 7 or 8 figures and feel like they're trying to keep up.

Lifestyle creep sets a standard for what is normal.

Being around people that spend 50k on Christmas lights changes your mind about what is normal.

They Figure things out

Become the type of person that figures it out.

Whatever IT is - Just get it done.

I was recently asked what my old bosses would say about me.

"He's grumpy sometimes but whatever I throw at him, he just figures it out"

A large chunk of the workforce today is unhirable.

They don't want to read the instructions.

They don't want to make mistakes or look stupid in front of their peers and they shy away from hard tasks.

These types of people are not solutions orientated. They want things to be easy.

You don't want things to be easy.

Don't ask for things to be easy.

When you're handed a tough problem, don't rest until you get it done.

Be the person that people can rely on to get the job done.

You're so vital to the department, to the company that your bosses are having nightmares that you'll leave.

When you meet a results-oriented person, their rates and salary will be magnitudes higher because it's such a rare trait.

They perform self-audits

If you're not happy with your current situation, it's time to figure out where you're falling short in life?

In your wealth and health and relationships?

What will your life look like in 5 years if you don't get these problems fixed?

They protect their time

We waste our own time.

Our friends and family waste our time.

The media you consume wastes your time.

Top earners are clear on what it is they want out of life.

Any time a distraction comes their way, they size it up relative to where it is they're trying to go.

They realise they're in a trap

If you're not currently where you want to be, it's because you're locked in.

Locked into what others think of you.

Locked into how Instagram tells you to look.

Locked into how the TV tells you to think.

The negativity, drugs, alcohol, and FOMO - burning away at your concentration, your time and focus.

Keeping you from your life's work

It's a giant web, but you can cut away the strands one at a time.

Snip away the toxic people. Snip away the time wasters. Snip away the mainstream media. Snip away the online distractions.

Snip until you're free.

We have the means to take our lives to the next level, whatever that looks like for you but only through the conscious and uncomfortable effort of self-auditing.

  • 6 figures is not enough
  • Figure things out
  • Perform self-audits
  • Protect your time
  • Get out of the trap
